On June 10, 2024, Hélène Dorion received the insignia of the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec, a prestigious distinction bestowed to personalities whose exemplary achievements reflect the artistic and literary development of Quebec. Discover the tribute paid to her by the Council.

Author, publisher, columnist and critic, Hélène Dorion has spun her body of work between Québec City and Montréal, the Laurentians and the Eastern Townships, literature and philosophy, poetry, novels and essays, music and the visual arts, literary concerts, song and opera.

Respected by her peers, lauded by critics, loved viscerally by generations of readers, translated into over 15 languages and winning awards around the world, Hélène Dorion is the first living woman to be included in the French Baccalaureate program, alongside Arthur Rimbaud and Francis Ponge. She has received prestigious awards in Québec and abroad, such as the Prix Athanase-David for her luminous body of work.

Hélène Dorion’s words are travel companions that explore both the beauty and complexity of the human condition and the world in which we live. Anyone who has loved, been afraid, been in pain, or stumbled will be marked by her lucid conversation with the universal.
