On June 10, 2024, Alice Ming Wai Jim received the insignia of the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec, a prestigious distinction bestowed to personalities whose exemplary achievements reflect the artistic and literary development of Quebec. Discover the tribute paid to her by the Council.

Alice Ming Wai Jim was born in Montreal (Tio'tia :ke), after her parents immigrated to Canada in the wake of the turbulent events that shook Hong Kong in 1967. She holds the Concordia University Research Chair in Ethnocultural Art Histories (2017-2022) and the Research Chair in Critical Curatorial Studies and Decolonizing Art Institutions (2023-2028).

An international authority in ethnic and cultural representation in visual arts, Alice Ming Wai Jim’s work is dedicated to diaspora art as well as contemporary Asian art, the decolonization of art and the relationship between media arts and place identity. Researcher, art historian, curator and professor, Alice Ming Wai Jim has distinguished herself for her scholarship, her activism, her openness and her impressive number of projects.

Through publications, conferences and exhibitions, she contributed to the recognition and development of artists who are Black, Indigenous, and people of colour (BIPOC). A dedicated teacher, she launched a new discourse on critical race theory, helping improve museum practices. She continues to inspire throngs of students with her clear vision of culture without borders.
