The CALQ visits the community of Maliotenam

Programmes Régions

To strengthen the CALQ’s ties with the various Indeginous communities, Sara Thibault, program officer for Recognition grants, recently visited the Innu community of Maliotenam.

As part of an information session, at the invitation of InnuWeb, Sara presented the Recognition program components and useful information for applying for a grant.

This trip also gave her the opportunity to visit cultural sites that foster creation, such as the Makusham recording studio This link will open in a new window and the Institut Tshakapesh This link will open in a new window. Every year, the latter organizes the Grand rassemblement annuel des nouvelles diplômées et nouveaux diplômés innus du secondaire (annual gathering of new Innu high school graduates).

Sara also participated in the Festival Innu Nikamu This link will open in a new window, one of the largest Indigenous music and arts festivals in North America, featuring First Nations musicians, artists, and performers from Québec and Canada.

About the Recognition program

Recognition is the first CALQ program dedicated to Indigenous artists and organizations throughout Québec. It was designed through dialogue, listening, and respect, in consultation with a wide range of arts and cultural practitioners in First Nations and Inuit communities.

With five components (three for artists and two for arts organizations), the Recognition program is for established or up-and-coming Indigenous arts organizations and artists. The program supports customary, traditional, and contemporary art forms.
