Since arriving in Québec over 30 years ago, Joseph Nakhlé has established dialogue. Whether as a writer, a journalist, or through the organization Alchimies, Créations et Cultures, through which he founded the Arab World Festival of Montreal and the Festival Orientalys, he weaves connections and encounters between cultures.

Twenty years ago, well before inclusion and awareness raising about cultural diversity were central to our discourse, putting together an event like the Arab World Festival of Montreal was at the cutting edge. Since then, Joseph Nakhlé has not slowed his pace. His determined battle to bring cultures closer together continues with more attention and openness to plurality than ever.

The beauty of the festivals Joseph Nakhlé has put together lies in their ability to tap into an enduring, deep passion for Arab arts and heritage. Through his nurturing, Western and Eastern heritages finally share a space for expression. The costumes go on and the masks fall. The stage lights come up, and we see the light disseminated by Joseph Nakhlé, ushering us toward harmony and pleasure.
