In the shadow of every great artist stands a critical link in their career: the impresario. The Swiss Army knife of the arts, managers keep their reflexes honed to move from their management role to accounting apprentice, budding psychologist, stand-in stylist, and curator in a pinch. Jacques Primeau is clearly a Swiss Army knife master, and, in addition to his versatility, has a unifying, visionary spirit that has propelled him like a star behind the scenes.
Out of the spotlight, he first demonstrated his confidence alongside a group of show-offs, who were a little rambunctious and a touch insolent. Complaints about scathing jokes? Never heard any.
At Rock et Belles Oreilles’ side was a Jacques Primeau who was ready to do anything to defend the freedom of their comedy genius and to promote a group that, 40 years later, remains a legend of our cultural landscape.
Having showcased Rock et Belles Oreilles, the solo projects of its members, including Guy A. Lepage and André Ducharme, and other people’s projects, Jacques Primeau continues to ply his trade with as much passion as he did at the start of his career, throughout Montréal’s cultural landscape.
From the Coalition des arts de la scène to the ADISQ, the Quartier des spectacles, and Spectra, Jacques Primeau has been the ideas man behind massive pilot projects, as he is fond of calling them, convincing and rallying everyone in his path for the common good: culture.
