This prize, accompanied by a cash award of $10 000, will highlight the artistic excellence of a choreographic work presented in Québec for the first time during the previous artistic season.

This prize, accompanied by a cash award of $10 000, will highlight the artistic excellence of a choreographic work presented in Québec for the first time during the previous artistic season.
The Prix du CALQ pour la meilleure oeuvre chorégraphique seeks to:
- highlight the excellence of creation in the realm of dance in Québec;
- promote the recognition of Québec professional choreographers;
- offer tangible support for their careers;
- heighten public awareness of the choreography for which the prize was awarded.
Eligibility requirements
Choreographers and professional dance collectives from around Quebec are eligible for this prize.
Dance includes a multiplicity of forms and styles and recognizes diverse culture and traditions.
Choreographers who submit their candidacy or who are nominated by a third party must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants within the meaning of section 2(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and in both instances must have resided in Québec for at least the past twelve (12) months.
Candidates who have been living outside Québec for two years or more are not eligible for the program, unless they have retained the status of Québec resident. In such cases, it is the candidates’ responsibility to demonstrate their eligibility by confirming their participation in the Québec health insurance plan.
Choreographers define themselves as follows:
- they declare themselves to be professional choreographers;
- they create works or practise an art on their own account or offer their services for remuneration as creators or performers, especially in the fields under the responsibility of the CALQ;
- they obtain the recognition of their peers and disseminate or publicly perform their works in places or contexts recognized by their peers.
To be eligible for the Prix du CALQ pour la meilleure oeuvre chorégraphique au Québec, the choreographers must also:
- submit their candidacy or agree to a third party's submitting their candidacy to the CALQ;
- have presented the work for the first time in Québec between July 1st, 2023 and June 30, 2024.
Ineligibility
The following are ineligible for the prize:
- groups that have been legally constituted as profit-making or non-profit corporations or general partnerships;
- the members of the board of directors of the CALQ.
Evaluation of candidacies
Evaluation criteria
- Artistic quality and interest of the proposal (25%)
- Quality and interest of the choreographic language (25%)
- Overall result and integrity (25%)
- Contribution of the work to the development of the discipline (25%)
Evaluation of candidacies
A selection committee whose members must be included in the CALQ's bank of resource persons will evaluate the candidacies. The members are recognized for their competence in the realm of dance and have a good knowledge of the sector.
The decision is final and without appeal.
Ethics
The members of the selection committee are subject to the code of ethics and professional conduct in force at the CALQ. All of them must act in good faith in the performance of their duties and avoid taking part in any discussion concerning a candidacy that might be marred by a conflict of interest. Furthermore, they may not use for their own purposes confidential or privileged information communicated to them.

Incomplete applications or those received after the deadline for submission are ineligible.

To affix the required signatures to the identification form, the candidate must include his electronic signature (PDF format) or sign the document in paper format (Word or PDF formats) and then scan it.
Attention: the maximum size of all attached documents must not exceed 25 MB.

Content of the application file
All documents must be clearly identified with the candidate or nominee's name.

Subject to the provisions of the Act respecting access to documents held by public bodies and the protection of personal information, the CALQ respects confidentiality of the documents and information in its possession as well as those sent to it.
Recommendations specific to a media type
Your files must be readable on Windows platform and by using one of the following software:
- Recent versions of the following browsers: Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Safari.
- VLC and Media Player.
- Abrobat Reader DC.
Recommendation:
- Users of the Mac OS must activate the function that allows them to automatically add the Windows extension at the end of the document name.
Note:
In order to reduce the weight of the documents attached to the application file, the CALQ strongly recommends the insertion of hyperlinks leading to audio or video sharing platforms (examples: Vimeo or YouTube) in a Word document.
Allocation of the award
The prize is indivisible and will be awarded in respect of a single work.
The prize will be awarded in conjunction with the Prix de la danse de Montréal (date and location to be announced).
