New residencies in Spain and France: the CALQ’s network of studio-apartments grows
Four new specialized residencies have been added to the CALQ’s offer of international research and creation studios!
In Catalonia
Beginning in May, a Québec sound artist will have the opportunity for an eight-week stay in Catalonia, Spain. The residency takes place in two separate regions, allowing the artist to immerse themselves in creative contexts that combine the city and nature.
For the first part of the residency, the artist will work at L’Estruch This link will open in a new window, the leading centre for artistic creation in Catalonia, located at the heart of the vibrant cultural scene of Sabadell, the fifth largest city in Catalonia. The residency will continue in an incredible natural setting, shaped by the surrounding water and ecosystems on the Eufònic This link will open in a new window campus, in the Ebro Delta.
The artist in residence will also have the opportunity to participate in the Eufònic festival, a sound, visual, digital and performing arts festival which has taken place in Terres de l’Èbre, 200 km south of Barcelona, since 2012. A core, distinctive element of Eufònic is the unique landscape of the Ebro Delta, which creates a sound and visual experience for the festival rooted in the landscape and the environment.
In exchange, an artist from Catalonia will be hosted in Québec City by Avatar, a centre for audio and electronic artists, with the collaboration of Mois Multi, international festival for multidisciplinary and electronic arts
Digital or visual artists with at least two years of practice in sound arts have until January 23, 2025 to apply.

A network of residencies around the world

The CALQ residency program is for professional artists and writers who are seeking growth and discovery, who want to immerse themselves in other cultures or have access to internationally renowned residency sites to conduct their research and explore new avenues for creation.
Since the inauguration of the Québec Studio in Paris in 1965, this program has increased the number or exchanges with many international partners and contributed to the career development of many artists.
