Foreword
The choreographic residency in Potsdam, on the outskirts of Berlin, enables Québec artists to engage in a significant experience in their professional development. The new living environment and contacts with other artists create conditions favourable to the development of creativity and artistic approaches, indeed to the enhancement of the artist’s international profile.
The residency is intended to enable a Québec choreographer or dancer to reside for two months abroad, accompanied by an artistic partner or his or her choice. The professional partner may come from one of the following fields: the circus arts, the digital arts, cinema and video, the multidisciplinary arts, the visual arts, popular song, dance, literature and storytelling, the arts and crafts, music, architectural research, and theatre.
Working as a pair in Potsdam will enable the recipients to develop their artistic relationship and explore new avenues for creative collaboration in the realm of contemporary dance.
In return, Québec will host two German artists with the participation of the Goethe-Institut Montréal and the Centre chorégraphique Circuit-Est.
Objectives
Conseil's studio-apartment residency program has five objectives:
- To support and stimulate artists by making available to them a suitable environment and the means to produce and disseminate their works.
- To foster artistic renewal for artists and writers by giving them access to a new and stimulating cultural environment.
- To facilitate exchanges of artistic or literary viewpoints and contribute to the formation of durable ties between artists from Québec and abroad.
- To promote the work and career development of Québec artists internationally.
- To develop new networks for artistic creation, production and dissemination.

Location
Fabrik Potsdam is an international centre devoted to dance and the art of movement that emphasizes creation and dissemination. Every year, it organizes the Potsdamer Tanztage, a veritable hub of dance in Europe. It is one of Germany’s foremost contemporary dance centres, a highly professional one that works in close collaboration with numerous contemporary dance centres in Europe.
Fabrik Potsdam will make available to the guest Québec artists a work and research space, its office infrastructure and professional follow-up by its artistic directors.
The Fabrik [Potsdam] is on the Schiffbauergasse, on the shores of the Tiefer See lake, which is home to a lively theatre and art scene. Listed buildings have been lovingly restored and are currently being used by artists as studios and exhibition rooms.
